Seattle Reign FC Midfielder Sam Meza Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension

RENTON, WASH. – Seattle Reign FC announced today that midfielder Sam Meza, the 17th overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft, has signed a new three-year contract that will keep her with the club through the end of the 2028 NWSL season.

“Sam’s development over the past year has been nothing short of remarkable,” said Reign FC General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “Her loan spell with Dallas Trinity in the USL during the second half of 2024 was a turning point—she took full ownership of her growth and returned with a renewed sense of purpose. Sam is focused, driven, and evolving into a complete professional both on and off the pitch. Her commitment to excellence is exactly why we’re thrilled to invest in her future. We believe she’s only beginning to tap into her full potential.”

Meza made her Reign debut during the 2024 NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup before joining Dallas Trinity FC on loan for the remainder of her rookie season. She returned to Seattle in 2025 and has quickly become a key contributor, appearing in all 13 matches so far this season, including nine starts. She is one of just six Reign players to feature in every game this year.

At the halfway point of the 2025 campaign, the 23-year-old leads the team in assists (2), tackles (47), and tackles won (29). Her 47 tackles rank third in the NWSL, while her 29 tackles won place her fourth league-wide—highlighting her growing influence in midfield.

“I’ve grown so much since stepping into the professional game, and I’m incredibly excited to continue my journey here in Seattle,” said Meza. “The culture, the people, and the standards at this club challenge me every day to be my best. I’m proud to wear this jersey and can’t wait to keep building with the Reign.”

During her loan stint with Dallas Trinity FC in 2024, Meza made 13 appearances, scored two goals, and earned USL Super League Player of the Month honors in November after playing every minute of the club’s unbeaten 3-0-1 run that month.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Meza was Seattle’s top selection in the 2024 NWSL Draft, chosen 17th overall out of the University of North Carolina. As a standout Tar Heel, she started 71 of 72 career matches, tallying seven goals and 10 assists. She earned All-ACC honors in three consecutive seasons, including First Team recognition in 2022 and Second Team selections in 2021 and 2023.

On the international stage, Meza received her first senior U.S. Women’s National Team call-up last week and earned her first cap yesterday. She has represented the United States at multiple youth levels since 2015, including the U-23s earlier this year. She was part of the U.S. squads that won the 2020 Concacaf U-20 Championship and the 2018 Concacaf U-17 Championship.
