Seattle Announces Key Transactions Ahead of June Series

SEATTLE – May 31, 2025 – The Seattle Mariners have announced a series of roster moves, highlighted by the promotion of infielder Cole Young from Triple-A Tacoma and the return of right-handed pitcher Bryce Miller from the 15-day injured list. The team’s 40-man roster remains full following additional adjustments.

  • Bryce Miller – RHP, activated from 15-day Injured List (right elbow inflammation).

Cole Young’s MLB Debut

Cole Young, ranked 43rd on MLB Pipeline’s Top Prospects list, will make his Major League debut upon his first appearance with Seattle. At 21 years old, he becomes the youngest Mariners player to debut since Julio Rodríguez on April 8, 2022. Young is also one of only six players under 22 to appear in an MLB game this season.

Young has been a standout performer in Triple-A Tacoma, boasting impressive numbers over 53 games:

  • .277 batting average (57-for-206)
  • 39 runs, 13 doubles, 5 triples, 5 home runs, 26 RBIs
  • 31 walks, 4 stolen bases
  • .392 OBP, .461 SLG, .853 OPS

His May performance has been exceptional, hitting .366 (37-for-101) with 5 home runs and earning Pacific Coast League Player of the Week honors for May 5-11.

Bryce Miller Returns to Rotation

Bryce Miller, a key arm in Seattle’s rotation, is back from right elbow inflammation that sidelined him since May 12. Before his injury, Miller posted:

  • 2-4 record
  • 5.22 ERA (23 ER, 39.2 IP), 35 strikeouts
  • Eight starts this season

Miller debuted in 2023, making history by setting the Mariners’ record for strikeouts in an MLB debut (10 Ks). His 2024 season was stellar, finishing 12-8 with a 2.94 ERA over 180.1 innings.

  • Leo Rivas, INF, has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma after appearing in 30 MLB games this season, batting .283 with four stolen bases.
  • Casey Legumina, RHP, moves to Tacoma after pitching 19.2 innings in 2025. He previously appeared in Major League seasons with Cincinnati and Seattle.
  • Will Klein, RHP, has been designated for assignment after making 22 Triple-A appearances, posting a 7.17 ERA.
