SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners executed a wide-ranging roster overhaul Tuesday, reinstating Brendan Donovan from the 10‑day injured list, adding newly acquired outfielder Taylor Ward and right‑handed reliever Seranthony Domínguez to the active roster, and recalling catcher Jhonny Pereda from Triple‑A Tacoma. In corresponding moves, Seattle released Mitch Garver and Rob Refsnyder, and designated Stuart Fairchild for assignment.
The Mariners now carry a full 26‑man active roster and have 36 players on the 40‑man roster.
Donovan Activated After Second Groin Injury of Season
Donovan, 29, returns after missing time with a left groin strain, his second IL stint of the year. He appeared in 10 rehab games across Tacoma, High‑A Everett, and the ACL Mariners.
Before the injury, Donovan was one of Seattle’s most consistent performers, batting .274 with four doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, and an .839 OPS in 25 games. He reached base at a .386 clip and played exclusively at third base for Seattle, though he has logged time at every infield position and both corner‑outfield spots during his career.
Acquired from St. Louis in a three‑team trade on Feb. 2, Donovan is a former Gold Glove winner (2022) and NL All‑Star (2025). Across 517 career games, he owns a .282 average, 101 doubles, 43 home runs, 210 RBI, and a .775 OPS.
Ward Reports After Trade From Baltimore
Ward, 32, joins Seattle one day after being acquired from Baltimore in exchange for right‑hander Alex Hoppe and minor league pitchers Brock Moore and Harrison Kreiling. He appeared in 111 games for the Orioles this season, batting .246 with 20 doubles, seven home runs, 30 RBI, and a .383 on‑base percentage.
Ward leads the American League in walks (87) and ranks sixth in OBP. His 17.2% walk rate is fourth‑highest in MLB. Defensively, he has been one of the league’s best left fielders, recording six defensive runs saved.
Ward is coming off a breakout 2025 season in which he set career highs in home runs (36), doubles (31), RBI (103), and slugging (.475). Since 2021, he has produced a .774 OPS and 116 OPS+, ranking among the top right‑handed hitters in OBP and overall offensive value.
A nine‑year veteran, Ward was drafted by the Angels in the first round in 2015.
Domínguez Joins Bullpen After Trade With White Sox
Domínguez, 31, reports to Seattle after being acquired Saturday from the White Sox in a multi‑player deal involving right‑hander Luis Castillo. He posted a 4–3 record, 12 saves, and a 4.10 ERA in 42 games for Chicago this season, striking out 45 in 37.1 innings.
His 10.85 strikeouts per nine innings ranks 15th among AL relievers with at least 30 innings pitched. Domínguez is under contract through 2027.
Across eight major league seasons with the Phillies, Orioles, Blue Jays, and White Sox, he owns a 19–17 record, 52 saves, 3.57 ERA, and 405 strikeouts in 343.1 innings.
Pereda Recalled After Strong Triple‑A Stretch
Pereda, 30, returns to Seattle after being optioned June 16. He has appeared in 19 games for the Mariners this season, batting .270 with two home runs and four RBI, including a nine‑game hitting streak from May 29 to June 12.
At Triple‑A Tacoma, Pereda has been one of the club’s most productive hitters, batting .319 with 13 doubles, 21 RBI, and an .842 OPS across 51 games.
The Venezuelan catcher has made major league appearances with Miami, Oakland, Minnesota, and Seattle. He originally signed with the Cubs in 2013.
Garver and Refsnyder Released; Fairchild Designated
Garver, 33, and Refsnyder, 35, were released from the roster. Fairchild, 28, was designated for assignment.
