RHP Victor Vodnik (10th) and RHP Tanner Gordon (26th) Ranked Among Braves Top 30 Prospects via MLB.com
DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today they have acquired right-handed pitchers Victor Vodnik and Tanner Gordon from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for RHP Pierce Johnson.
Vodnik, 23, has gone 3-1 with a 3.10 ERA (40.2 IP, 14 ER), 25 walks and 56 strikeouts in 30 relief outings for Double-A Mississippi, the third-most in the Southern League. Originally drafted by Atlanta in the 14th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Rialto High School (Calif.), Vodnik is in his fifth professional season in which he holds a career 8-9 record with 10 saves to go along with a 3.48 ERA (181.0 IP, 70 ER) over 99 games (14 starts). Vodnik was most recently ranked as the Braves 10th-best prospect via MLB.com.
Gordon, 25, has split the 2023 season between Triple-A Gwinnett and Mississippi, combining to go 5-9 with a 5.86 ERA (86.0 IP, 56 ER) in 17 games (16 starts). Originally drafted by Atlanta in the sixth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of Indiana University (Bloomington, Ind.), the right-hander is in his fourth professional season. His 12 wins in 2022 were tied for the most in the Braves system. Over his Minor League career, Gordon has gone 25-25 with a 4.54 ERA (339.0 IP, 171 ER) in 77 games (62 starts) with two complete games and a save. Gordon was most recently ranked as the Braves no. 26 prospect via MLB.com.
Signed as a free agent by Colorado on Dec. 13, 2022, Johnson is tied for 10th in the National League with 13 saves. The Colorado native went 1-5 with a 6.00 ERA (39.0 IP, 26 ER) in 43 games for the Rockies.
The Rockies now have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
