Red Sox Reinstate RHP Garrett Whitlock from 15-Day Injured List

Club Options Right-Handed Pitcher Kyle Barraclough to Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA — The Boston Red Sox today reinstated right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock from the 15-Day Injured List. To make room for Whitlock, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Kyle Barraclough to Triple-A Worcester following last night’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Whitlock, 27, was placed on the Injured List on July 3 due to right elbow inflammation. He tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his lone rehab appearance with Triple-A Worcester on August 9 against Buffalo. The right-hander has made 10 starts for the Red Sox this season, going 4-3 with a 5.23 ERA (30 ER/51.2 IP). Selected from the New York Yankees in the Major League portion of the 2020 Rule 5 Draft, Whitlock has gone 16-9 with a 3.36 ERA (76 ER/203.1 IP) in 87 career appearances (19 starts) for the Red Sox (2021-23).

Barraclough, 33, pitched in each of the Red Sox’ last two games against the Tigers, allowing one run in 3.1 innings. Signed by the Red Sox in June, the right-hander has also gone 7-0 with a 2.57 ERA (12 ER/42.0 IP) and .181 opponent batting average (25-for-138) in eight games (seven starts) with Worcester. Originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the seventh round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 3.60 ERA (111 ER/277.2 IP) in 290 career Major League games with the Miami Marlins (2015-18), Washington Nationals (2019), San Francisco Giants (2019), Minnesota Twins (2021), Los Angeles Angels (2022), and Red Sox (2023).
