Red Sox reinstate infielder Jonathan Araúz from Covid-19 related injured list

Club Transfers LHP Josh Taylor to 60-day Injured List

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox reinstated Jonathan Araúz from the COVID-19 Related Injured List and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester following last night’s game. To make room for Araúz on the 40-man roster, the club transferred left-handed pitcher Josh Taylor to the 60-day injured list.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Araúz, 23, has appeared in five games for the Red Sox this season, making three starts at second base. In three seasons with Boston (2020-22), the switch-hitter has batted .208 (30-for-144) in 58 games and has made 25 starts at second base, three at third base and 11 at shortstop.

Taylor, 29, posted a 3.40 ERA (18 ER/47.2 IP) and set career highs in appearances (61) and innings (47.2) for the Red Sox in 2021. The left-hander recorded a 26-game scoreless streak for Boston last season, setting the franchise record for most consecutive scoreless appearances by a left-handed pitcher (21.2 IP) from April 30 to July 5. For his career, Taylor has allowed 0.79 HR/9.0 IP and averaged 11.35 SO/9.0 IP in the majors.
