Club Designates Outfielder Raimel Tapia for Assignment
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today reinstated infielder Christian Arroyo from the 10-Day Injured List. To make room for Arroyo on the active roster, the club designated outfielder Raimel Tapia for assignment. The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is now at 39.

Arroyo, 28, was placed on the Injured List on May 7 with a right hamstring strain. He played in six rehab games with Triple-A Worcester, making three starts at second base, one at shortstop, and two as the designated hitter. The right-handed hitter is batting .257 (19-for-74) with 12 runs scored and 11 RBI in 27 games for Boston this season, making 19 starts at second base and two at shortstop. Claimed off waivers from Cleveland in August 2020, Arroyo has batted .255 (203-for-796) with 107 RBI in 256 career games with San Francisco (2017), Tampa Bay (2018-19), Cleveland (2020), and Boston (2020-23).
Tapia, 29, has batted .264 (23-for-87) in 39 games with Boston this season, making nine starts in left field, five in right field, and four in center field. He has also appeared as a pinch-hitter 15 times, second most in MLB, going 4-for-13 (.308) with one double, one home run, and four RBI. The left-handed hitter has batted .276 (502-for-1,818) in 606 career games with the Colorado Rockies (2016-21), Toronto Blue Jays (2022), and Red Sox (2023).
