Club Options Left-Handed Pitcher Joe Jacques to Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Nick Robertson from Triple-A Worcester. To make room for Robertson, the club optioned left-handed pitcher Joe Jacques to Worcester following yesterday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Robertson, 25, was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 25, along with minor league right-handed pitcher Justin Hagenman, in exchange for Kiké Hernández. The right-hander made his Major League debut with the Dodgers on June 7 and has allowed seven runs in 10.1 innings over his first nine career appearances, all in relief. He has also posted a 2.87 ERA (10 ER/31.1 IP) and .210 opponent batting average (25-for-119) with 13.21 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (46 strikeouts) in 27 Triple-A games for Oklahoma City and Worcester. The Virginia native was selected by the Dodgers in the seventh round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft and has recorded a 3.58 ERA (69 ER/173.1 IP) in 139 career minor league games (three starts).

Jacques, 28, allowed one run in 1.0 inning yesterday against the Blue Jays. The left-hander has posted a 5.85 ERA (13 ER/20.0 IP) in 17 appearances (one start) for Boston this season, the first Major League outings of his career, while also recording a 3.58 ERA (11 ER/27.2 IP) in 23 games (one start) with Worcester. Originally selected by Pittsburgh in the 33rd round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Manhattan College, the New Jersey native was acquired by the Red Sox in the Triple-A phase of the 2022 Rule 5 Draft.
