Red Sox place right-handed pitcher Kaleb Ort on restricted list

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Kaleb Ort on the Restricted List. To fill Ort’s spot on the active roster, the club recalled outfielder Jarren Duran.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Ort, 30, tossed a scoreless ninth inning yesterday against the Baltimore Orioles to earn the first save of his Major League career. The right-hander has a 2.92 ERA (4 ER/12.1 IP) in 12 appearances since being recalled on August 29. Ort allowed eight earned runs in 0.2 innings on July 22 against the Toronto Blue Jays but has a 3.71 ERA (11 ER/26.2 IP) in his other 23 outings for Boston this season.

Duran, 26, has hit .220 (44-for-200) with 23 runs scored, 20 extra-base hits, 17 RBI, and seven stolen bases in 57 games across four stints with Boston this season, making 47 starts in center field and five in right field. The left-handed hitter batted .283 (79-for-279) with an .840 OPS, 49 runs scored, 32 extra-base hits, 38 RBI, and 18 stolen bases for Triple-A Worcester in 2022.
