Club Recalls Infielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed infielder Luis Urías on the 10-Day Injured List (retroactive to September 21) due to a left calf strain. To fill his spot on the active roster, the club recalled infielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester.
Urías, 26, was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers on August 1 and has played in 32 games for the Red Sox, batting .225 (20-for-89) with 13 runs scored, four doubles, two home runs, and 13 RBI. The right-handed hitter has played in 52 games overall this season, appearing in 39 at second base and 19 at third base. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the San Diego Padres on December 27, 2013, the Mexico native has batted .234 (331-for-1,412) with 192 runs scored, 48 home runs, and 180 RBI in 445 career Major League games with San Diego (2018-19), Milwaukee (2020-23), and Boston (2023).
Valdez, 24, has hit .246 (29-for-118) with five doubles, five home runs, and 15 RBI in 41 games for the Red Sox this season, his Major League debut. The left-handed hitter has also batted .254 (48-for-189) with eight doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, and 41 RBI in 57 games for Worcester. Acquired by Boston from the Houston Astros on August 1, 2022, the Dominican Republic native is ranked as the Red Sox’ No. 17 prospect by Baseball America.
