Club Recalls Right-Handed Pitcher Hirokazu Sawamura from Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed left-handed pitcher Matt Strahm on the COVID-19 Related Injured List. To fill Strahm’s spot on the active roster, the club recalled right-handed pitcher Hirokazu Sawamura from Triple-A Worcester.
Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.
Strahm, 30, last appeared on Friday against the Orioles, allowing four runs (three earned runs) between the eighth and ninth innings to snap a nine-appearance scoreless streak. The left-hander has posted a 3.68 ERA (6 ER/14.2 IP) in 18 relief appearances for Boston this season.
Sawamura, 34, did not appear for the WooSox after being optioned to Worcester on Saturday. The right-hander has a 3.60 ERA (6 ER/15.0 IP) in 18 relief appearances for Boston this season. Since joining the Red Sox in 2021, Sawamura ranks second on the team in appearances (73).
