Red Sox place Infielder Yu Chang on 10-Day Injured List

Club Recalls Infielder/Outfielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed infielder Yu Chang on the 10-Day Injured List due to a left hamate fracture. To fill Chang’s spot on the active Major League roster, the club recalled infielder/outfielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Chang, 27, has played in 17 games with the Red Sox this season, making 11 starts at shortstop and two at second base. The right-handed hitter has three home runs and eight RBI in his last eight games, going 6-for-28 over that span. He has played in 213 Major League games, third most among players born in Taiwan behind Wei-Yin Chen (219) and Hung-Chih Kuo (218).

Valdez, 24, made his Major League debut on April 19 against the Minnesota Twins, starting at second base and hitting a pair of singles. In 14 games with Worcester this season, the left-handed hitter has gone 9-for-49 (.184) with three doubles, one triple, one home run, and eight walks, while making 14 starts at second base. Acquired from the Houston Astros on August 1, 2022, Valdez is ranked as a top 20 Red Sox prospect by both MLB.com (No. 17) and Baseball America (No. 19).
