Boston selects INF Jack Lopez from Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed infielder/outfielder Danny Santana on the COVID-19 Related Injured List. To fill Santana’s spot on the active roster, the Red Sox selected infielder Jack Lopez from Triple-A Worcester.
Santana, 30, has played in 38 games with Boston this season and batted .181 (21-for-116) with two doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 14 RBI. He has made 12 starts in center field, 11 at first base, four in left field, and two at designated hitter.
López, 28, rejoins Boston for his second stint in the big leagues this year. On September 1 he was added to the roster and made his major league debut at Tampa Bay. Over five games for the Red Sox he started five games at second base, going 2-for-12 (.167) with two doubles and one walk. The right-handed hitter has split the 2021 minor league season between Worcester (60 games) and Double-A Portland (five games), combining to hit .274 (60-for-219) with 20 extra-base hits and 40 RBI.
