Red Sox announce roster moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Selected right-handed pitcher Kyle Barraclough to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 44.
  • Recalled left-handed pitcher Brandon Walter from Worcester.
  • Optioned right-handed pitcher Nick Robertson to Worcester following last night’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
  • Designated right-handed pitcher Dinelson Lamet for assignment.

The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is now at 39.

Barraclough, 33, owns a 3.61 ERA (110 ER/274.1 IP) with a .208 opponent batting average (207-for-996) and 11.35 strikeouts per 9.0 innings in 288 Major League games with the Miami Marlins (2015-18), Washington Nationals (2019), San Francisco Giants (2019), Minnesota Twins (2021), and Los Angeles Angels (2022). The right-hander was signed by the Red Sox in June and has gone 7-0 with a 2.57 ERA (12 ER/42.0 IP) and .181 opponent batting average (25-for-138) in eight games (seven starts) with Worcester. Prior to joining the organization, the California native posted a 1.00 ERA (2 ER/18.0 IP) in seven outings (two starts) this season for the High Point Rockers of the independent Atlantic League. He was originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the seventh round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Saint Mary’s College of California.

Walter, 26, has posted a 3.07 ERA (5 ER/14.2 IP) in six games for Boston this season, his first Major League experience. The left-hander has also recorded a 5.74 ERA (44 ER/69.0 IP) in 16 games (13 starts) with Worcester. Ranked as the Red Sox’ No. 8 prospect by MLB.com, the Delaware native was selected by Boston in the 26th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft.

Robertson, 25, allowed three runs in 3.0 innings last night against the Royals. Acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 25, the right-hander has allowed 14 runs in 14.1 innings over 11 appearances this year, his Major League debut. He has also posted a 2.87 ERA (10 ER/31.1 IP) and .210 opponent batting average (25-for-119) with 13.21 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (46 strikeouts) in 27 Triple-A games for Oklahoma City and Worcester.

Lamet, 31, allowed three runs in 2.0 innings last night against Kansas City. The right-hander has recorded an 11.71 ERA (36 ER/27.2 IP) in 17 Major League outings (four starts) in 2023 for the Colorado Rockies and Boston. Originally signed by the San Diego Padres as a non-drafted international free agent on August 20, 2014, the Dominican native owns a 4.66 ERA (188 ER/363.1 IP) in 118 career Major League games (60 starts) with the Padres (2017-22), Rockies (2022-23), and Red Sox (2023).
