BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
- Appointed left-handed pitcher Chris Murphy as the club’s 27th man for today’s doubleheader against the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. Per Major League Baseball rules, both teams are permitted to add an extra player for today’s games.
- Placed right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck on the 15-Day Injured List (retroactive to June 17) due to a facial fracture.
- Recalled right-handed pitcher Kaleb Ort from Triple-A Worcester.

Murphy, 25, made his Major League on June 7 against the Cleveland Guardians, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings of relief with two hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. The left-hander has also posted a 7.01 ERA (34 ER/43.2 IP) in 12 games (nine starts) for Worcester this season. Selected by Boston in the sixth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of San Diego, the California native is ranked among the Red Sox’ top 15 prospects by both Baseball America (No. 13) and MLB.com (No. 14).
Houck, 29, was removed from Friday’s game against the Yankees after allowing one run in 4.0 innings. The right-hander has posted a 5.05 ERA (38 ER/67.2 IP) over 13 starts for the Red Sox this season. Selected by Boston in the first round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, he owns a 3.66 ERA (87 ER/213.2 IP) in 66 career appearances (33 starts).
Ort, 31, will make his first career start in Game One of today’s doubleheader. The right-hander has posted a 5.87 ERA (10 ER/15.1 IP) in 14 games with the Red Sox this season, most recently making scoreless, hitless relief appearances on June 4 and June 5 against the Tampa Bay Rays. He has also posted a 1.86 ERA (2 ER/9.2 IP) and held opponents to a .167 batting average (6-for-36) in 10 games with Worcester. Selected by Boston in the Triple-A phase of the 2020 Rule 5 Draft from the Yankees, Ort owns a 6.14 ERA (30 ER/44.0 IP) in 40 career Major League appearances (2021-23).
