BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today made the following roster moves:
- Placed infielder Jonathan Araúz and left-handed pitcher Chris Sale on the COVID-19 Related Injured List.
- Placed left-handed pitcher Austin Davis on the Paternity Leave List.
- Reinstated shortstop Xander Bogaerts from the COVID-19 Related injured list.
- Reinstated left-handed pitcher Darwinzon Hernandez from the 10-Day Injured List.
- Selected right-handed pitcher Kaleb Ort from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 85.

Araúz, 23, has played in 28 games over four stints with Boston this season, batting .185 (12-for-65) with three home runs and three doubles. He has made nine starts at shortstop, nine and second base, and one at third base.
Sale, 32, returned from the 60-day injured list on August 14 and has since made five starts, going 3-0 with a 2.52 ERA (7 ER/25.0 IP), 30 strikeouts, and six walks. In 89 starts with the Red Sox (2017-19, ’21), he is 38-23 with a 3.06 ERA (185 ER/544.2 IP) and 0.99 WHIP.
Davis, 28, has made 14 appearances since Boston acquired him from the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 30, posting a 4.61 ERA (7 ER/13.2 IP) with 14 strikeouts and six walks. Eight of his last nine outings have been scoreless, including both appearances in September.
Bogaerts, 28, was placed on the COVID-19 Related Injured List on September 1. He has hit .298 (137-for-459) with 33 doubles, 20 home runs, and 70 RBI in 124 games this season, making 118 starts at shortstop. Among qualified American League payers, Bogaerts ranks sixth in batting average, ninth in on-base percentage (.366), and 11th in OPS (.867).
Hernandez, 24, was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 31 with a right oblique strain. The left-hander made one appearance during his rehabilitation assignment, tossing 1.0 scoreless inning for Worcester on Tuesday. Hernandez has made 41 appearances for Boston this season, going 2-2 with a 3.44 ERA (13 ER/34.0 IP) and 12.18 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (46 strikeouts).
Ort, 29, is making his first appearance on an active major league roster. The right-hander is tied for the Triple-A lead in saves, having converted 18 of 20 opportunities while posting a 3.12 ERA (15 ER/43.1 IP) with 59 strikeouts, 20 walks, and four home runs allowed for Worcester. The Red Sox selected Ort from the New York Yankees in the Triple-A phase of the 2020 Rule 5 Draft.
