Alexy will be available for club’s road trip opener on Friday in Minnesota

Minneapolis, Minn. — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher A.J. Alexy from Triple-A Round Rock. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Joe Barlow has been placed on the 15-day Injured List, retroactive to August 18, with a right index finger blister.

Alexy will be in his second stint with the Rangers this season, as he made one relief appearance during his first Major League stint from July 13-16 (2.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R-ER).  He has spent the balance of the campaign at Round Rock, going 6-5 with a 6.27 ERA (59 ER/84.2 IP) over 25 games/15 starts. Alexy over his last 2 games/one start with the Express: 1-0, 6.0 scoreless innings, 3 walks, 6 strikeouts. In his last outing on Tuesday vs. El Paso, Alexy started and recorded 3.0 shutout innings.

Barlow pitched a scoreless 6th inning on Wednesday vs. Oakland, this after being on the Injured List from July 13-August 16 with the same blister-related injury. The first date he would be eligible to return to the active roster is September 2. Barlow has a 3-1 record with a team-high 13 saves and 3.16 ERA over 31 relief appearances with Texas this season.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers still have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with two players (Mitch Garver and Eli White) on the 60-day Injured List.
