Rangers recall outfielder Leody Taveras from Round Rock, place outfielder Eli White on 10-day injured list

White was injured in 11th-inning outfield collision on Sunday at Chicago-AL

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled outfielder Leody Taveras (#3) from Triple-A Round Rock. The team has also placed outfielder Eli White on the 10-day Injured List with a right wrist fracture.

The 23-year-old Taveras has batted .294/.335/.485/.820 with 7 home runs, 12 doubles, 3 triples, and 29 RBI over 49 games with Round Rock this season. The switch-hitter ranks among Pacific Coast League leaders in hits (T5th, 60) and total bases (T8th, 99). Over a current 5-game hit streak, Taveras has batted .429 (9-21) with a home run, 2 doubles, 4 RBI, 8 runs, and 3 walks/2 strikeouts. For the season he is hitting .354 (23-65) with an .891 OPS against left-handed pitching and .266 (37-139) with a .788 OPS versus right-handed pitching. Taveras was the Rangers’ April Minor League Player of the Month after batting .377 for the first month of the year, and he compiling a 17-game hitting streak from April 16-May 8.

Taveras has seen Major League action in each of the last two seasons with Texas, and will be seeking to appear in a MLB game for the first time since October 3, 2021 vs. Cleveland. He has gone 18-for-19 in steal attempts to begin his Major League career. Though he has exhausted his rookie and prospect status, Taveras was a back-to-back selection as the Rangers’ top prospect in 2017-18 by MLB.com.

White was injured in a collision with leftfielder Charlie Culberson on a fly ball in the 11th inning of Sunday’s game at Chicago-AL. He has batted .200 with 3 home runs and 10 RBI over 47 games with Texas this season, and his team-high 12 stolen bases rank T3rd-most in the American League.

After today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the Major League roster, along with two players (Jonathan Hernández and José Leclerc) on the 60-day Injured List.
