Rodriguez, club’s no. 24 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, will be seeking MLB debut
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has placed left-handed pitcher Matt Moore on the MLB Paternity Leave List and recalled right-handed pitcher Yerry Rodriguez (#51) from Triple-A Round Rock.
With his placement on the Paternity List, Moore may miss up to three days while another player takes his place on the active roster. Moore has gone 4-2 with a 2.00 ERA (12 ER/54.0 IP) and 2 saves over 42 relief appearances this season.
Rodriguez, 24, will be seeking his Major League debut. The right-hander has gone 3-1 with a 4.43 ERA (21 ER/42.2 IP), 4 saves, and 57 strikeouts over 37 games/1 start for Round Rock this season, his first working as a full-time reliever. His 12.02 strikeouts per 9 innings rate ranks 4th in the Pacific Coast League (min. 40 IP). He was named the Rangers’ minor league Reliever of the Month for June, posting a 1.54 ERA (2 ER/11.1 IP) and .125/.222/.250/.472 opponent slash line over 9 outings for the Express that month, striking of 20 of 45 (44.4%) batters faced.
The Dominican Republic native was originally signed by Texas as a non-drafted free agent on Sept. 2, 2015. He owns a career 24-13 record, 3.26 ERA (115 ER/317.2 IP), and 10.3 strikeouts per 9.0 innings figure over 107 games/49 starts in the minor leagues. Touted by FanGraphs as the top prospect in the Texas farm system (no. 97 overall) prior to 2020, Rodriguez is currently rated as the Rangers’ no. 24 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.
Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with two players (Mitch Garver and Eli White) on the 60-day Injured List.
