RHP Josh Sborz to begin rehab assignment with Round Rock tonight

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has placed catcher Jonah Heim on the MLB Paternity Leave List and recalled catcher Sam Huff from Triple-A Round Rock. Also, right-handed pitcher Josh Sborz is scheduled to begin an injury rehabilitation assignment with Round Rock tonight vs. Salt Lake.

With his placement on the Paternity List, Heim may miss up to three days while another player takes his place on the active roster. The 26-year-old catcher has batted .333 with 2 home runs and 9 RBI in 10 games for Texas this season.

Huff has been formally recalled after spending yesterday on the taxi squad. The 24-year-old catcher has batted .241/.302/.431/.733 with 3 HR and 7 RBI in 15 games with the Express in 2022. Huff is seeking his first MLB action since Sept. 27, 2020 vs. Houston, as he made his Major League debut with 10 games that season.

Sborz is scheduled to pitch for the Express in tonight’s 7:05 p.m. CT contest vs. Salt Lake. The right-hander was placed on the 10-day Injured List on April 16 with right elbow soreness and is eligible to be activated at any point. He threw a live batting practice session on Tuesday at Globe Life Field. He made four relief appearances for Texas prior to the injury.
