Lorenzen is scheduled to make his Rangers debut with start in Monday’s series opener in Detroit

Houston, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves prior to Monday night’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park:

  • Right-handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen (#23) activated from 15-day Injured List.
  • Right-handed pitcher Yerry Rodríguez optioned Round Rock (AAA) postgame on April 14.

Lorenzen will make his Rangers debut with a start in tonight’s game at Comerica Park in Detroit. He signed a one-year contract with Texas on March 22, 2024, and opened the season on the 15-day Injured List, retroactive to March 25, with a right neck strain. He made 3 starts in injury rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Round Rock, posting no record with a 6.35 ERA (8 ER/11.1 IP). His last outing with the Express came on Wednesday vs. Oklahoma City (4.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R-ER, 5 BB, 6 SO, 89 pitches/53 strikes). Lorenzen did not appear in any Spring Training games with the Rangers due to the neck strain.

The veteran right-hander combined to go 9-9 with a 4.18 ERA (71 ER/153.0 IP) over 29 games/25 starts for Detroit and Philadelphia in 2023, when he was selected to the All-Star Game – with the Tigers – for the first time while setting career highs in innings, starts, strikeouts (111), and wins. He produced the 14th no-hitter in Phillies franchise history in his second start with the club on August 9, 2023 vs. Washington, and has served primarily as a starting pitcher over the past two seasons after working out of the bullpen in the early part of his Major League career. Across a nine-year MLB career, Lorenzen has a 40-38 record, 15 saves, and a 4.11 ERA over 342 games/69 starts with Cincinnati (2015-21), Los Angeles-AL (2022), Detroit (2023), and Philadelphia (2023).

Rodríguez has allowed 7 runs/earned runs in 6.0 innings over 6 relief appearances for the Rangers this season after making an Opening Day roster for the first time in his career.

With today’s transactions, Texas remains at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with five players (Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Justin Foscue, Josh Jung, and Tyler Mahle) on the 60-day Injured List.
