Rangers activate OF Kole Calhoun from injured list, option INF/OF Josh Smith to Round Rock

Calhoun will be available for club’s game on Sunday in Minnesota

Minneapolis, Minn. — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has activated outfielder Kole Calhoun from the 10-day Injured List and optioned infielder/outfielder Josh Smith to Triple-A Round Rock.

Calhoun was on the 10-day Injured List from Aug. 3-20 with right heel irritation. The veteran outfielder has batted .211 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI over 97 games in his first season with Texas. He played in 3 games on an injury rehabilitation assignment with Round Rock, going 3-for-10 with hits in all 3 games. His final rehab game action game on Thursday vs. El Paso, going 1-for-3 with a double, walk, and 2 runs scored in the Express’ 4-0 shutout win.

Smith has batted .218 with one home run and 12 RBI over 50 games with Texas in his first Major League action after his contract was selected on June 4. He has spent the balance of the season with Round Rock, batting .266 with 4 home runs and 30 RBI in 44 games.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers still have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with two players (Mitch Garver and Eli White) on the 60-day Injured List.
