The Timbers are unbeaten in seven straight matches against San Jose (W5 D2) dating back to 2019. This ties the longest unbeaten run by either team against the other in MLS play with Portland also going unbeaten in the first seven meetings (W2 D5) from 2011 to April 2013.
San Jose has lost only one of its last five matches (W2 D2), including a 3-3 draw on Saturday. It was the seventh time since the start of last season that the Earthquakes both scored and conceded at least three goals in the same match. No other MLS team has done so more than four times in that span.
The Timbers set a club record by scoring seven goals in their win over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday. Portland also tied an MLS record for goals in a half, scoring six times after halftime. The eight combined goals in the second half also tied the league record for combined goals in a half.
Jeremy Ebobisse scored two of San Jose’s three goals against Vancouver on Saturday, his third multi-goal game this season. The only Earthquakes player with more than three multi-goal games in a single regular season is Chris Wondolowski, who had six such games in 2012.
In his first MLS appearance, Nathan Fogaça scored two of Portland’s seven goals on Saturday, becoming the first Timbers player to score multiple goals in their first career match. Fogaça and Sebastián Blanco each scored twice in the match, the third time in club history that two players have scored multiple goals in a match (Felipe Mora & Jeremy Ebobisse in 2020, Diego Valeri & Fanendo Adi in 2017).
