It’s been nearly three years since the Red Bulls and Minnesota United last met in MLS play, with the Loons winning, 2-1, away in early April 2019. The first two league meetings between the sides saw the Red Bulls win 3-0, once in Minnesota and once at home.
The Red Bulls have opened a season with back-to-back wins for the fifth time in club history and the first since 2017. New York has never won its first three matches of an MLS season.
Minnesota United has both scored and conceded in each of its last eight MLS matches (including playoffs). It’s the longest such run in club history and the longest active streak of both scoring and conceding in MLS.
Lewis Morgan scored his first career hat-trick in the Red Bulls’ win over Toronto on Saturday. Morgan is just the third Red Bulls player to score a hat-trick in MLS in the last 15 seasons after Bradley Wright-Phillips (5) and Thierry Henry (1).
Hassani Dotson scored Minnesota’s lone goal, unassisted, against Nashville on Saturday. Seven of Minnesota’s last 10 regular season goals have not had an assist after they recorded an assist on 24 of their previous 27 goals in MLS play.
