MLS Preview: Inter Miami SC (3-6-2) at Philadelphia Union (5-1-5)

The Union won both meetings against Inter Miami in the 2020 season but failed to win either of the two matches last season (D1 L1). Miami won, 2-1, at Subaru Park in April 2021, one of three visiting teams to win at Philadelphia since the start of last season (NYCFC twice, New England).

The Union scored first before conceding in a 1-1 draw against the Red Bulls on Saturday, the tenth time in 11 games Philadelphia has taken the lead this season. The Union have gone on to win only half of those games (W5 D4 L1) as its 11 points dropped from winning positions are second-most in MLS this season.

Inter Miami has just one point in three matches following its three-match winning streak in April (D1 L2). The 1-0 win at Seattle during that streak are the only away points Miami has collected this season (W1 L4).

Dániel Gazdag scored the Union’s only goal in the 1-1 draw against the Red Bulls on Saturday. Gazdag has been involved in at least one goal in eight of his last 10 MLS appearances, scoring six times and assisting three in that span.

Inter Miami’s second goal against D.C. United, a Damion Lowe goal assisted by Jean Mota, was the first Miami goal in MLS that was not either scored or assisted by Leonardo Campana since April 2. Campana had scored (5) or assisted (2) on the Herons previous seven goals, including the opener on Saturday.
