MLS Preview: FC Dallas (4-1-3) at Sporting Kansas City (2-6-1)

The visiting team has won seven of the last 10 meetings between Sporting Kansas City and Dallas (D1 L2). Dallas is unbeaten in five straight visits to Kansas City (W4 D1). Only two teams have had longer unbeaten road runs against Sporting (D.C. United: 7 games from 2005-07 and Chicago: 6 games from 2008-12).

Sporting Kansas City’s winless run extended to four games after a scoreless draw with the Crew on Saturday. Sporting has just seven points through nine games, the third-worst start to a season in club history (3 points in 1999, 5 points in 2011).

FC Dallas scored two late goals to beat Houston, 2-1, on Saturday, extending its unbeaten MLS run to six games (W4 D2), its longest since May-June 2018 (7 straight). Dallas has won four of those six games after winning just two of its previous 18 MLS matches dating back to mid-August last season.

Seven of Sporting Kansas City’s last eight goals against FC Dallas have been scored by either Johnny Russell (4) or Daniel Sallói (3). The one goal that was not scored by the pair, an Alan Pulido strike last August, saw Sallói record an assist.

Tsiki Ntsabeleng and Facundo Quignon came off the bench to score the equalizing and winning goals for Dallas on Saturday, the second time two subs scored in a match for Dallas this season (A. Velasco and F. Jara vs. Nashville in March). Prior to this season, Dallas hadn’t had two subs score in a match since 2018.
