MLS Preview: Columbus Crew SC (2-1-2) at Philadelphia Union (4-0-1)

The Union are unbeaten in six straight home matches against Columbus (W5 D1), keeping clean sheets in each of the last five meetings at Subaru Park. A team has kept six straight home clean sheets against a single opponent just four times in MLS history.

The Union have continued the best start in club history, with 13 points through five games. After opening with a draw, the Union have won four straight games, equaling the longest winning streak in club history.

Columbus has won just three of its 29 away matches since the start of the 2020 season (D12 L14) and has drawn its first two away games of 2022. Only one of the Crew’s last six road games has ended in defeat (W1 D4), however that loss was in Philadelphia in October.

Daniel Gazdag’s goal against Charlotte on Saturday was the fourth straight match in which he’s scored, equaling the Union club record for consecutive games with a goal, matching Kacper Przybylko (2019), C.J. Sapong (2015) and Jack McInerney (2012).

The Crew lead MLS this season in shot attempts, taking 16.4 per match, an improvement of nearly five per match from last season, when they averaged 11.7 (23rd). Lucas Zelarayán has a team-high 16 shots, of which 12 have come from outside the box, second-most in MLS (Jean Mota – 16).
