The Rapids ended a five-match winless run (D3 L2) with a 2-0 win over Portland on Saturday. That was Colorado’s second straight clean sheet, though the Rapids haven’t managed three shutouts in a row since the first three games of the 2015 season.
San Jose leads MLS in possession this season, keeping 60.3 percent of the ball. The Earthquakes have held at least 60 percent possession in a league-high six games this season but have managed just two points from those games (D2 L4).
Diego Rubio and Mark-Anthony Kaye scored in Colorado’s win over Portland on Saturday. Rubio (4) and Kaye (3) have combined for seven of the Rapids’ last eight MLS goals, with Lalas Abubakar the only other Rapids player to score since early March.
