MLS Preview: Chicago Fire (2-3-4) at Atlanta United FC (3-4-2)

The home team has won eight of the nine all-time MLS meetings between Atlanta and Chicago, including the last six in a row. The Fire have never taken a point in Atlanta, losing their four visits by a combined 11-2.

Atlanta United has just one point from its last four matches, though that point came in its only home match in that span. The Five Stripes are unbeaten in 11 straight at home (W7 D4) and have had only two longer unbeaten runs at home, going 15 straight from 2018-19 and 12 straight from May-September 2017 (incl. playoffs).

The Fire are winless in five straight matches (D2 L3) after consecutive wins over D.C. United and Sporting Kansas City in March. Chicago has won only two of its last 11 games dating back to last season, scoring five goals in those wins while scoring just one in the other nine in that time (D4 L5).

Marcelino Moreno scored Atlanta United’s lone goal in its 2-1 loss to Montreal on Saturday. Moreno has been involved in 21 MLS goals for Atlanta (13 goals, 8 assists), more than any other player on the team since he debuted in the league in October 2020.

Jonathan Bornstein’s next appearance will be his 200th in MLS (reg. season & playoffs) in MLS. Only three players have reached that mark at a later age than Bornstein currently is (37 years, 181 days as of May 7): Pat Onstad (41 years, 186 days), Preki (38 years, 360 days), and Donovan Ricketts (38 years, 113 days).
