MLS Preview: Austin FC (6-3-2) at Los Angeles Football Club (7-2-2)

Los Angeles FC won all three meetings with Austin FC last season, including a 2-0 victory in Austin’s first ever match last April, Austin’s only visit to Banc of California Stadium.

Los Angeles FC lost, 2-0, to Colorado on Saturday, ending a run of 18 straight games with a goal dating back to last September. LAFC has scored in its last 31 home MLS matches dating back to August 2020, the longest active streak in MLS.

Austin FC has suffered consecutive defeats after losing just one of its first nine matches this season (W6 D2). Austin has just two wins in its last 19 road matches in MLS (D3 L14) and hasn’t managed a clean sheet in its last 15 away games.

Los Angeles FC conceded two first-half penalties against Colorado on Saturday, the first penalties LAFC has conceded in MLS play since October 28, 2020. The 46-match run without giving away a penalty is the longest in MLS history, besting the 42-match streak set by San Jose in 2009-11.

Diego Fagúndez moved to the top of the MLS assists chart with his seventh of the season on Saturday, setting up Alexander Ring. Fagúndez has recorded more assists in a single MLS season just twice in his career (10 in 2018, 8 in 2017, both with New England).
