The home side won both meetings between Real Salt Lake and Austin last season, including a 1-0 home win for RSL in August. Bobby Wood scored the lone goal in that match, a 32nd minute header.
Real Salt Lake was shut out for the third time in four matches in a 2-0 defeat to Nashville on Sunday. All three of those shutouts have come on the road, however, as RSL has scored in 14 straight home matches dating back to a 1-0 loss to LAFC in early July 2021.
Austin FC’s club-record four-match winning streak came to an end in a 1-0 home loss to the Galaxy on Sunday. Austin has won consecutive road matches, however, after failing to win any of its previous 16 games away from Q2 Stadium (D3 L13).
Real Salt Lake attempted just six shots against Nashville on Sunday, with five of those coming from defenders Marco Silva (3) and Aaron Herrera (2). The only non-defender to attempt a shot was Bobby Wood, who failed to hit the target with his only effort of the match.
Despite failing to score on Sunday against the Galaxy, Austin’s 22 goals are second-most in MLS after 10 matches this season (LAFC – 23). Austin had six goals after 10 games last season, as the 16-goal increase through 10 games from one season to the next is the second largest in MLS history, with only the Galaxy (+23) from 1997 (8 goals) to 1998 (31) having a larger increase.
