Postseason Returns to Music City as Predators Clinch Playoff Berth for 16th Time in 20 Seasons

Four rounds of #NHLStats as the Predators aim for the first Stanley Cup in their 25-year history:

* Nashville made eight straight postseason appearances from 2014-15 to 2021-22. Now making their ninth appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2014-15, the Predators are tied with the Lightning for the most among all teams over that span. The Capitals, Penguins and Wild also entered this season with eight playoff appearances since 2014-15 but have not clinched in 2023-24.

Roman Josi is set to make his 10th postseason appearance – the most in Predators history â€“ and also holds the franchise record for most postseason games played (85 GP). Josi’s 31 playoff assists are tied with Ryan Johansen and Ryan Ellis for the most in franchise history.

Filip Forsberg leads the Predators in career playoff goals (29 in 75 GP) as well as most goals in a single playoff year (9) – a mark he achieved during Nashville’s run to its only Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2016-17 (9 in 22 GP).

* First-year Predators skater Ryan O’Reilly, who won the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy in his first season with the Blues in 2019, leads all players on the Predators roster in career playoff points (25-40—65 in 75 GP). O’Reilly had 8-15—23 (26 GP) during the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, tied for the most points among all skaters and concluded that postseason on a four-game goal streak (5-2—7), the longest by anyone in the Stanley Cup Final since Edmonton’s Wayne Gretzky had an equal run in 1985 (7-4—11).

* The Predators (2017) are one of two teams to advance to the Stanley Cup Final after entering the postseason as a Wild Card team since the playoff format started in 2013-14 (also FLA in 2023).

Ryan McDonagh enters the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs with 185 career postseason games – second to only Corey Perry (196 GP) among all active players. McDonagh, who won the Stanley Cup in 2021 and 2020 with the Lightning, has made four Stanley Cup Final appearances in his career (also 2022 w/ TBL & 2014 w/ NYR) and stands with Victor Hedman (2022, 2021, 2020 & 2015 w/ TBL) as one of two active defensemen to have appeared in four championship series.

* Nashville enters the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs after a boost from a franchise-record 18-game point streak from Feb. 17 to March 26 (16-0-2). The Predators were four points outside of the playoff picture prior to the streak starting.

Barry Trotz has guided the Predators back into the postseason in his first season as general manager after the franchise missed in 2022-23. Trotz was the first head coach in franchise history (Oct. 10, 1998 – April 13, 2014). Trotz had a 19-31 record behind the Predators bench across seven postseason appearances.
