The Pittsburgh Pirates today placed right-handed pitcher David Bednar on the 15-day injured list (retro to June 20) with a strained left oblique muscle.

Left-handed pitcher Justin Bruihl has been recalled from the Major League taxi squad/Triple-A Indianapolis.

This is Bruihl’s second stint with the Pirates this season. He was signed as a Major League free agent on June 6 before being optioned to Triple-A on June 17, where he tossed 1.0 scoreless inning in his only outing with Indianapolis on June 20.

Bruihl will wear uniform No. 56.
