RHP Luis Oviedo has returned from his rehab assignment and has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Oviedo has been sidelined since June 7 with a left quad strain. He began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis and went 0-2 with an 8.00 ERA (9.0ip/11h/8r/8er/6bb/11so) in four games (three starts).
The Rule 5 Draft selection made his Major League debut with the Pirates on April 3 and picked up his first big league win on May 14 vs. San Francisco.
In 12 relief appearances with the Pirates, the 22-year-old Oviedo has gone 1-1 with a 7.23 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 18.2 innings of work.
Oviedo will be wearing uniform #57.
To make room on the active roster, RHP Max Kranick has been optioned to Indianapolis. Kranick just made his third big league start with the Pirates Wednesday afternoon in Arizona and received a no-decision.
He has gone 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA (11.0ip/7er) in three Major League starts this season.
