The Pittsburgh Pirates today placed left-handed pitcher Anthony Banda on the 10-day injured list (retro to April 23) with a viral illness (non-COVID) .
Left-handed pitcher Sam Howard has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Banda’s place on the 28-man active roster.
Prior to being promoted to the Pirates, Howard went a combined 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA (3.2ip/1er) in three appearances (two starts) with Low-A Bradenton and Indianapolis this season. Howard began the season on the 10-day injured list with a mid-back muscle strain before being reinstated from the injured list on April 20 and optioned to Triple-A.
Howard will wear uniform #54.
