The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed right-handed pitcher Connor Overton off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The 28-year-old Overton made his Major League debut on August 12 after being selected by the Blue Jays one day earlier from Triple-A Buffalo. Overton made four scoreless appearances (6.2ip/4h/2bb/4so) with the Blue Jays prior to being designated for assignment on September 3.
Overton signed with Toronto on February 2 and went 2-1 with a 2.03 ERA (57.2ip/13er), 10 walks and 50 strikeouts in 21 appearances (seven starts) this season with Buffalo.
To make room for Overton on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Duane Underwood Jr. has been transferred from the 10- to the 60-day injured list.
