The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired RHP Yohan Ramirez from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis. To make room on the 40-man roster, the club designated LHP Aaron Fletcher for assignment. The Pirates 40-man roster is now at 40.
Ramirez, 27, has appeared in eight games this season between the Seattle Mariners and Guardians, combining to go 1-0 with a 6.97 ERA (8 ER in 10.1 IP) with 11 strikeouts and a .244 opponents average, including holding right-handed hitters to a .222 (6-for-27). The six-foot-four, 210-pounder has also made 15 appearances between Triple-A Tacoma and Triple-A Columbus, going 1-1 with a 6.06 ERA (11 ER in 16.1 IP) and 20 strikeouts.
Ramirez has combined to go 2-3 with 5 saves, a 3.99 ERA (16 ER in 58.2 IP), 72 strikeouts and .180 opponents average in 49 career games across parts of four Major League seasons with the Mariners (2020-22) and Guardians (2022). He features a four-seam fastball (35.9%), a slider (49.5%) and a sinker (14.6%)
Fletcher, 26, appeared in 9 games for the Pirates this season, striking out six over 11.2 innings of work.
