Phillies place Marsh on 10-day injured list; select Wilson from Lehigh Valley

Prior to today’s game against the Kansas City Royals, the Phillies placed outfielder Brandon Marsh on the 10-day injured list with a left knee contusion. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, the club selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson from triple-A Lehigh Valley. Wilson will wear No. 37 and his first appearance will be his major league debut.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcement.

Marsh, 25, made his second career Opening Day roster and first with the Phillies and was slashing .284/.369/.463 with an .833 OPS in 101 games for the club this season. He had already set new career highs in doubles (20), triples (6), extra-base hits (34) and walks (41) before sustaining the injury in the fifth inning of last night’s contest. Marsh reached base safely in a career-high 21 straight games from April 3-26 and his 14 extra-base hits to start the season were the most by a Phillie since Jayson Werth began 2010 with 14 extra-base hits in his first 21 games.

Originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft, Marsh was acquired via trade by the Phillies on Aug. 2, 2022.

Wilson, 28, has slashed .312/.376/.584 (.960 OPS) against left-handed pitching this season, while he has gone 94-for-361 (.260) with 16 doubles, two triples, 25 home runs, 69 RBI, 56 walks, 67 runs and 23 stolen bases in 100 games overall for the IronPigs this year. The righty ranks third in the International League in home runs, is tied for sixth in RBI and is tied for eighth in runs scored. Defensively this season, Wilson has appeared at shortstop (64 games), first base (13 games), left field (9 games), third base (8 games) and right field (1 game).

The High Point, N.C., native was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent on Jan. 3, 2023 and attended Major League Spring Training as a non-roster invitee. Wilson was originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 17th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
