Phillies acquire Brandon Marsh from Angels

The Phillies have acquired center fielder Brandon Marsh from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for catcher Logan O’Hoppe, Phillies President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski announced today.

Marsh, 24, posted a .226/.284/.353 slash line with nine doubles, two triples, eight homers, 37 RBI, 34 runs and eight steals in 93 games with the Angels this season. The left-handed hitter is batting .288 (19-66) with runners in scoring position this year.

Per Statcast data, Marsh’s nine Outs Above Average are tied for second-most among qualifying outfielders in 2022. Additionally, his sprint speed (29.0 feet per second) ranks in the 91st percentile among qualifying players in the majors this season.

The Georgia native has appeared in 163 career games over the last two seasons (2021-22) with the Angels. He was originally selected by Los Angeles-AL in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

O’Hoppe, 22, was originally selected by the Phillies in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He posted a .275/.392/.496 slash line in 75 games with double-A Reading this season.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Marsh, Odúbel Herrera has been designated for assignment.
