Prior to tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Phillies returned infielder Edmundo Sosa from his rehab assignment with triple-A Lehigh Valley and reinstated him from the 10-day injured list. To make room for him on the 28-man roster, infielder Buddy Kennedy was optioned to Lehigh Valley following last night’s game.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Sosa, 28, has slashed .264/.319/.437 (.756 OPS) with seven home runs and a career-high-tying 30 RBI over his 83 games this season. Defensively, the Panama native has appeared at shortstop (46 games, 38 starts), third base (21 games, 11 starts) and second base (17 games, 14 starts).

Originally signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as an amateur free agent on July 2, 2012, Sosa was acquired by the Phillies in a trade on July 30, 2022.

Kennedy, 25, slashed .200/.333/.300 (.633 OPS) in seven games (12 plate appearances) with the Phillies this year. The Millville High School graduate was originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB Draft and was acquired by the Phillies in a trade with the Detroit Tigers on June 7.

Additionally, catcher Aramis Garcia, who was designated for assignment on Sunday, has cleared waivers and was outrighted to Lehigh Valley.
