Prior to tonight’s game, the Philadelphia Phillies reinstated left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, returning him to the active roster. In a corresponding move, the club placed right-handed pitcher José Ruiz on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 1) due to neck spasms.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Suárez Returns After Strong Rehab Stint
Suárez, 29, completed four rehab starts between Single-A Clearwater and Lehigh Valley, delivering a 1.08 ERA (2 ER, 16.2 IP) while striking out 24 batters and allowing just five walks, with an impressive 0.90 WHIP.
In 2024, Suárez earned his first career All-Star selection, finishing 12-8 with a 3.46 ERA (58 ER, 150.2 IP), striking out 145 while issuing 41 walks and recording a 1.20 WHIP. He also set career highs in wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts.
Originally signed as an amateur free agent by the Phillies on April 1, 2012, Suárez has been a key part of the club’s rotation in recent years.
Ruiz Heads to Injured List
Ruiz, 30, has appeared in 12 games this season, all in relief, posting a 4.76 ERA (6 ER, 11.0 IP) with 11 strikeouts and six walks.
Originally signed by the San Diego Padres as an amateur free agent, Ruiz joined the Phillies organization as a minor league free agent on November 28, 2023.
