NWSL: Orlando Pride Signs Kerry Abello to New Contract

Defender inked to two-year deal with the Pride

Orlando, FL – It was announced today that the Orlando Pride have signed defender Kerry Abello to a new two-year contract. Abello will stay in Orlando through the 2024 season of the National Women’s Soccer League, with an option to extend his stay for an additional year.

Abello, 23, was chosen as the No. At the 2021 NWSL Draft, the Pride selected 24th overall. The Penn State alum made 24 appearances across all competitions in 2022, including all but one of the Pride’s regular-season games, and recorded an assist for the year.

Abello was called up to the U.S. Women’s U-23 National Team for the Women’s U-23 Three-Nations Tournament one year ago. She scored in that tournament to help the Stars and Stripes defeat Sweden 3-0. She had previously been called up to numerous U.S. youth national teams throughout her career.

Abello had a successful five-year college career at Penn State. The Elmhurst, Ill. native was named to the All-Big Ten team three times, helped the Nittany Lions win three Big Ten titles, and twice was named to the All-North region team during her career.

The Pride play their first game of the 2023 NWSL season on Sunday, March 26 at Providence Park against the Portland Thorns at 5 p.m. ET. On Sunday, April 2, they play host to Angel City FC at Exploria Stadium.

Tonight, February 23, the club will host a free preseason match against the Kansas City Current. For the start at 6:30 p.m., fans can sign up.
