NWSL Preview: Washington Spirit (1-5-8) at Racing Louisville FC (2-6-6)

Match Preview: Racing Louisville FC vs. Washington Spirit

Lynn Family Stadium | Louisville, Kentucky – Friday, August 5 at 8:00 PM ET

Players to watch:

Racing Louisville forward Kirsten Davis scored her first NWSL regular season goal against OL Reign on Tuesday in first-half stoppage time. Davis is the second Louisville player to score a stoppage-time goal (first or second half), joining Ebony Salmon who also did so in purple during first-half stoppage time against Orlando last October.

Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman bagged a brace on Friday against the Courage, the first NWSL brace of her career. Including her last game played in the NWSL on June 17 against Racing Louisville, in which she scored, Rodman has scored 3 goals in a two-game span, the most goals over two games in her NWSL career.

Match facts: Racing Louisville FC returns to action to kick off the weekend after also playing on Tuesday night, making their performance in Friday’s quick turnaround against the Washington Spirit something to watch.

Racing Louisville are winless in their last nine games (D4 L5) including a 1-1 draw against OL Reign on Tuesday. The nine-game winless streak is tied for the longest in Louisville’s brief history from August to October last year and is behind just two 13-game winless streaks (Washington currently and Kansas City last season) as the longest in NWSL over the last two years.

On the other side is Washington though, who have struggled greatly in the regular season thus far. Their winless streak is now up to 13 games (D8 L5) following a 3-3 draw with the North Carolina Courage on Friday. In the prior 22 regular season games in which the Spirit scored at least three goals, Washington had won 18 times (D3 L1). On the road thus far this season, Washington has drawn five and lost two.

Louisville and Washington played to a 2-2 draw earlier this season in June. In the four games in the fixture played last year (all competitions), either Louisville or Washington was shut out, with Louisville winning one of the games and Washington winning three.
