NWSL Preview: Orlando Pride (7-9-1) at OL Reign (7-7-3)

Lumen Field | Seattle, Washington – Sunday, September 3 at 6:00 PM ET

Players to watch:

Reign attacker Megan Rapinoe converted her 14th career NWSL penalty on Sunday in the team’s 2-1 loss at Angel City. That converted spot kick made her the all-time leader in all competitions in league history, and her 93.3 percent conversion rate from the spot (14/15) is the highest of any player to attempt eight or more penalties in NWSL history.

On the other side, Pride forward Marta created eight chances for teammates on Friday, including an assist for her side’s lone goal. It was the second time the Brazilian has created eight chances for teammates in a single match (vs. Washington – 2018), making her just one of two players with multiple games of eight or more chances created since 2016 (Megan Rapinoe).

Match facts: As the push for the NWSL Playoffs continues, the OL Reign host the Orlando Pride at Lumen Field on Sunday night with the Reign aiming to avoid a fourth consecutive loss in league play and the Pride looking for a bounce back result after a loss snapped their three-game win streak. The Reign are in 6th place with 24 points from 17 games played with Orlando just behind them in 7th place with 22 points from 17 games played.

OL Reign have lost three straight regular season matches for the first time in over two years, doing so in May to June of 2021. The Reign haven’t lost four straight league games in over a decade, though, last doing so in August 2013.

The Pride, however, won their last regular season away match, 3-0, at Washington back on July 1 to equal the largest margin of victory in a road game in club history. Orlando have scored three goals in each of their two away wins in the 2023 regular season but has failed to score in their other six away games (D1 L5).

OL Reign are unbeaten at home against Orlando (W4 D3) and have won each of the last three home matches in the fixture. The only current NWSL team with more home games against a single opponent without a single loss is Portland against Washington (13, including forfeit win).
