NWSL Preview: Kansas City Current (5-9-0) at Racing Louisville FC (3-4-7)

Lynn Family Stadium | Louisville, Kentucky – Friday, July 7 at 8:00 PM ET

Players to watch:

Racing midfielder Paige Monaghan scored her second goal of the season in Racing Louisville’s draw at OL Reign on Saturday. Monaghan has scored multiple goals (all competitions) in each of the last five calendar years dating back to 2019, one of just four players to do so, joining Bethany Balcer, Christine Sinclair, and Debinha.

Current forward Michelle Cooper scored the lone goal in Kansas City’s 1-0 win at Portland on Saturday. At 20 years, 209 days, Cooper is the second-youngest player to convert a penalty in NWSL history with only Mallory Swanson (19 years, 70 days in July 2017) doing so at younger age.

Match facts: Racing Louisville FC hosts the Kansas City Current on Friday night in the second of three games, with the hosts Racing looking for a first win in three games while the Current have won two on the bounce to climb off the bottom of the table. Racing is in 8th place with 16 points from 14 games, while Kansas City is in 10th just a point back with 15 points from 14 games played.

Racing Louisville has won six of its last 10 home matches in all NWSL competitions (D3 L1) after winning just five of its first 26 at home in club history (D10 L11). Louisville has won its last two home matches and could win three in a row at Lynn Family Stadium for the first time in club history.

Kansas City, meanwhile, have won four of their last six matches in all NWSL competitions (L2), including both of their last two on the road. After not winning a single road game in their inaugural 2021 season, the Current have 12 away wins in all competitions since the start of 2022, tied with OL Reign for the most in NWSL in that time.

Racing Louisville has won five of its nine matches against Kansas City in all NWSL competitions (D2 L2), including the last three in a row. Both the five wins and three-match winning streak are Louisville’s best against any opponent in the club’s NWSL history.
