On Sunday, Racing Louisville had five players contribute to their three goals with Kirsten Davis, Alex Chidiac, and Emina Ekic scoring while Jaelin Howell and Emily Fox provided the assists. It was the first time in Racing Louisville history that the team had five different players provide a goal contribution in a single game. It also marks the first goal for Davis since early August, for Chidiac since late July, and for Ekic early July. In addition, the side is led by forward Nadia Nadim in the goals department, with her six goals ahead of midfielder Savannah DeMelo’s four.
In Kansas City’s victory over Washington on Sunday, both CeCe Kizer and Lo’eau LaBonta scored their seventh goals on the season. Other than North Carolina’s Debinha and Diana Ordoñez, Kansas City is the only team this season with two players having scored at least seven goals. LaBonta has scored five of her from the penalty spot as well, with only midfielder Hailie Mace also finding the back of the net from 12 yards out this season (1).
Match facts: Racing Louisville FC now attempts to provide a positive ending for the Louisville faithful when the club hosts the Kansas City Current on Saturday night for the pair’s regular season finale. Though Racing is out of the playoff picture heading into the final week of the regular season, all three result possibilities have the potential to affect Kansas City’s standing in the table with the Shield still in sight.
Racing Louisville won their last match against Angel City on Sunday, 3-1, for the team’s first three-goal game since beating Orlando, 3-1, in October of last year. The result ended a 22-match streak in league play. In the 21 games prior to the Orlando game last season, Racing Louisville had two games with three goals.
The Current, meanwhile, were held scoreless in their last road match (4-0 loss to Chicago), which ended a five-match run of away games with at least a goal scored. This was the team’s longest such streak as a club. In the four road games this season prior to the streak, the Current were held scoreless three times.
Kansas City has two home wins against Louisville in league play, including a 1-0 win in May for the Current’s first win of this season. However, when Louisville hosted Kansas City twice last year, Louisville was unbeaten (W1 D1), winning its last home game in the fixture, 3-1, in August of 2021.
