Snapdragon Stadium | San Diego, California – Sunday, September 3 at 8:00 PM ET
Players to watch:
San Diego forward Kyra Carusa came off the bench to score the winning goal for San Diego against Orlando last Friday. Carusa is the sixth different Wave player to score a goal as a substitute in all competitions this season. Only the Courage (7) in 2019 had more different players score a goal off the bench in a single year in NWSL history.
The Dash came from 1-0 down to earn a draw against Kansas City on Saturday thanks to a stunning goal from forward Michelle Alozie, the fourth time this season that Houston has avoided defeat after going behind. That’s tied with three other teams (Angel City, Portland, Racing Louisville) for the most times avoiding defeat after trailing this regular season.
Match facts: As the push for the NWSL Playoffs continues, San Diego Wave FC welcomes the Houston Dash to Snapdragon Stadium on Sunday night, with San Diego looking to extend its league unbeaten run to four games with a positive result while Houston is seeking a first league win in eight games. San Diego is currently in 3rd place with 27 points from 17 games played while Houston are in 10th place with 20 points from 17 games played.
San Diego has won back-to-back matches in all competitions for the fourth time this season, but the first since defeating Kansas City and Houston in mid-May. The Wave have recorded just one longer winning streak in all competitions, a three-match run in May 2022 that also included a win over Houston.
Houston have managed just one win in their last 11 matches in all competitions (D5 L5), though their last two matches have ended in draws. The Dash have unfortunately not scored more than once in any of those 11 matches, totaling just five goals in that time.
San Diego has won all three meetings against Houston, scoring three goals in each of the last two meetings. It is one of two times in club history that the Wave have scored three or more goals in consecutive matches against an opponent (also against Gotham).
