SEATTLE, WA. – Today, OL Reign announced that it has loaned defender Jimena López to UMF Selfoss in the rvalsdeild Kvenna, Iceland’s top women’s football league, for a predetermined loan fee until June 2023. The deal’s financial terms were kept confidential in accordance with league and club policy.
Head coach Laura Harvey said, “Jimena has been an amazing teammate for our club, and we’re excited for her to embrace this new opportunity in Iceland.” We are confident, as a coaching staff, that her participation in another highly competitive league will enhance her quality and skills.”
López was selected by OL Reign with the 28th overall pick in the 2021 NWSL College Draft. However, she decided to start her professional career with SD Eibar in the Spanish Primera División instead of playing for OL Reign. Lopez joined OL Reign in June 2021 after playing 16 matches for SD Eibar and scoring one goal.
The native of Mexico City signed a contract with OL Reign for three years, with an additional one-year option. Over the course of two seasons, López has made four starts in nine regular season games for the Reign. In her appearances during the regular season, the defensive back has recorded 12 clearances, 12 interceptions, and eight tackles won.
In addition, López played in four Challenge Cup games for OL Reign, making nine more clearances and scoring once. In the 2022 edition of The Women’s Cup, López stood out by providing the assist for Jordyn Huitema’s game-winning goal.
