Exploria Stadium | Orlando, Florida – Saturday, June 10 at 7:00 PM ET
Players to watch:
Four of Orlando’s last six regular season goals have been scored on set pieces, including three off corners. Three different players (Adriana, Kylie Strom, Marta) have assisted on those three corners, one of two teams, along with Washington, to have three different players assist on a corner this season.
Portland forward Christine Sinclair scored the second of the Thorns’ two goals against OL Reign on Saturday, becoming the first player in NWSL history to score in 60 different games across all competitions, breaking a tie with Lynn Williams and Sam Kerr.
Match facts: The Orlando Pride host Portland Thorns FC on Sunday night in the final match of the weekend’s regular season action, with the Pride needing to avoid a third-straight loss and Portland looking to extend its unbeaten streak to four games (W2 D1 in the last three).
Orlando has won back-to-back home matches for the first time in two years, since defeating Portland and Kansas City in May 2021. The Pride have just two home winning streaks of more than two matches, most recently a three-match run in August-September 2017.
Portland recorded a 2-0 win over OL Reign on Saturday, its fifth win of the season with all five victories coming by at least two goals. Portland’s 25 goals through 10 matches of a season are the most in league history while its plus-14 goal difference at this stage is tied for the highest, with the Reign in 2014 and the Thorns themselves last season.
The Thorns have won 13 of their 17 all-time meetings with Orlando (D2 L2) including the last three in a row by a combined score of 12-0. Portland’s 13 wins over Orlando are more than any team against a single opponent since Orlando joined NWSL in 2016.
Noted (via Jen Cooper, The Keeper):
Pride forward Marta is two goals away (28) from 30 NWSL regular-season goals. She’s the club’s all-time leader in goals (28), assists (14) and now appearances (82) following last weekend’s game.
Orlando’s Erika Tymrak is one goal away from 20 regular-season goals.
Next assist for Thorns defender Meghan Klingenberg will make her the 6th player to record 20 assists for one club, and the second for the Thorns after Tobin Heath (24).
Portland’s Emily Menges is set to make her 150th regular-season appearance for the Thorns. Only Christine Sinclair has more for the club (166 before this weekend).
Three Portland players can make their 50th career regular-season appearance in this game: Sophia Smith (all with POR), Morgan Weaver (all with POR) and Michele Vasconcelos.
