#NHLStats Pack: 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series

* With a climate-controlled tent at the center of its most complex, ambitious – and potentially warmest puck-drop temperature – outdoor game in League history, the NHL welcomes the Lightning and Bruins  to the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series, the second outdoor game in the state of Florida in 31 days (Feb. 1, 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN, SN & TVAS).

* Two franchise icons are set to go head-to-head outdoors when Nikita Kucherov and David Pastrnak clash at Raymond James Stadium – in what could be the ninth NHL outdoor game to feature at least two of the League’s top-10 scorers that season and first since the 2017 Stadium SeriesSidney Crosby (2nd), Evgeni Malkin (8th) and Phil Kessel (t-10th).

* The League’s 45th outdoor game will be played just four days before the 2025-26 regular-season schedule pauses for NHL Players to participate in the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Up to 16 players representing nine countries could hit the ice outdoors in Tampa before heading to Italy.

* The state of Florida has seen a team reach the Stanley Cup Final six years running and is home to four of the past six Stanley Cup champions, with the Lightning and Panthers each making three straight Final appearances and claiming back-to-back Stanley Cup wins since 2020. On Feb. 1, the Lightning will host the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series – the second outdoor game ever contested in the state of Florida, less than a month after the Panthers hosted the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic at loanDepot park in Miami.

With an average high of 71°F/22°C on Feb. 1 in Tampa (according to AccuWeather.com), the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series could be the warmest puck-drop temperature for an outdoor game in League history. The current forecast for Feb. 1, 2026, predicts 66°F/19°C which still would set a new high – the current benchmark for warmest outdoor game is 65ºF/18ºC, set at the 2016 Stadium Series at Coors Field in Denver. The Winter Classic in Miami was the second warmest (63°F/17°C). Click here to see the temperature for every outdoor game in League history.

* Florida is the 19th state to host an NHL regular-season outdoor game and the fourth to host multiple in the same calendar year, following New Jersey (2024), Nevada (2021) and New York (2014). The only Canadian province to host two in the same year is Ontario (2017).

* While they have a fierce rivalry on the ice – aided by four head-to-head playoff series since 2021 (after never meeting in their first 26 seasons together in the NHL) – the Lightning and Panthers are engaged in a month-long celebration of the explosive growth of the game of hockey in the Sunshine State. Most recently, the NHL Unites Legacy Project presented by GEICO opened its synthetic ice rink Jan. 9 in Miami, after that city hosted the Winter Classic.

* This season marks the 33rd campaign of NHL play for the Lightning franchise, which joined the League for the 1992-93 season. Tampa Bay was the first franchise from the state to win the Stanley Cup (2004) and have qualified for the playoffs in 11 of the previous 12 campaigns.

* From 2020-21 to 2024-25, USA Hockey reports that participation in the state of Florida is +46.84% overall, +82.14% among girls and women and +67.96% among players age 10 or younger. That five-season stretch began just after the Lightning won their first of back-to-back Stanley Cups (September 2020) and spans through the Panthers’ third consecutive Final appearance and back-to-back championships (the sixth straight appearance in the Final for a team from Florida).

* Through Jan. 18, a total of 11 Florida-born players (10 skaters, 1 goaltender) have skated this season, guaranteeing a seventh straight campaign with at least eight Florida-born players. A dozen years ago, there had never been more than two in one season. Only three other seasons have had a double-digit count for Florida-born players (12 in 2021-22 & 2022-23; 11 in 2023-24).

The 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series will be the 45th NHL regular-season outdoor game. Tampa Bay (1-0-0) will host an outdoor game for the first time and appear in their second, following the 2022 Stadium Series in Nashville. Boston will make its sixth outdoor appearance (4-1-0) and first in a Stadium Series (4 Winter Classic and 1 NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe).

* The Lightning can become the sixth franchise to win each of its first two or more outdoor games. The Rangers (6 GP), Capitals (3 GP), Blues (3 GP), Maple Leafs (2 GP) and Senators (2 GP) are the only clubs to do so to date.

* The Bruins will tie the Rangers (6-0-0 in 6 GP), Penguins (2-3-1 in 6 GP) and Flyers (1-4-1 in 6 GP) for the second-most outdoor games among all franchises, behind only the Blackhawks (1-6-0 in 7 GP). Boston (4-1-0) and the NY Rangers (6-0-0) are the only clubs with four or more roof-off wins.

* Each of Boston’s four outdoor victories to date have been comeback wins, tied with the NY Rangers for the most among all teams. Detroit (2) and Toronto (2) are the only other franchises with multiple.

* Each of the past three Stadium Series games have at least eight combined goals, including an NHL outdoor high 11 goals between the Rangers and Islanders in 2024 (NYR: 6, NYI: 5).

* * *

* Tampa Bay and Boston sit first and second in victories since the NHL realigned to the Wild Card format in 2013-14 and have done so thanks in part to two of the League’s four 60-win campaigns. The Lightning matched the 1995-96 Red Wings (62) with a record-tying season in 2018-19 and featured three 40-goal scorers. Four seasons later, the 2022-23 Bruins sat atop the Atlantic Division for nearly the entire season and benefited from five win streaks of seven or more games en route to a record-setting, 65-win campaign.

* The history between the Lightning and Bruins includes three head-to-head meetings in the postseason, with the winner of the series going on to win the Stanley Cup on two occasions (TBL in 2020 R2; BOS in 2011 CF). The two clubs also met in the 2018 Second Round.

* Entering Jan. 19, Tampa Bay (56) and Boston (41) are two of four teams who have held a top-three position in the Atlantic Division for at least 40 game days in 2025-26, alongside Montreal (80) and Detroit (75 days).

Ryan McDonagh has skated in five outdoor games – the most on either roster – and owns a perfect 5-0-0 record (2022 SS2018 WC2014 SS vs. NYI2014 SS vs. NJD & 2012 WC). McDonagh has the most career outdoor wins in NHL history – among skatersgoaltenders and head coaches – and is one of six players with a perfect record that scenario (min. 4 GP), alongside Mika Zibanejad (4-0-0), Carl Hagelin (4-0-0), John Moore (4-0-0), Derek Stepan (4-0-0) and Henrik Lundqvist (4-0-0).

* McDonagh, who is seeking his first outdoor point, can tie six players for the third most outdoor games played in NHL history (among skaters and goaltenders), behind James van Riemsdyk (8 GP) and Patrick Kane (7 GP).

Nikita Kucherov (1-1—2 in 1 GP) and Jake Guentzel (0-2—2 in 3 GP) lead the Lightning in career outdoor points. Kucherov has factored on two of three outdoor goals in Lightning history – including the first in the club’s history, scored by Brayden Point (1-0—1 in 1 GP) at the 2022 Stadium Series. Guentzel’s three previous outdoor appearances were with the Penguins.

* Kucherov is Tampa Bay’s all-time leader in assists, ranks second in points and third in goals – though he could climb the last list before Stadium Series (3 to pass Vincent Lecavalier for 2nd). Already this season, Kucherov has overtaken Martin St. Louis on the goals list (Nov. 18) and joined Steven Stamkos as the second player with 1,000 points for the Lightning (Oct. 25).

* Only nine players have recorded more than one multi-point outdoor game, with Kucherov and Guentzel (0-2—2 in 2017 SS) both having a chance to join that list. For Kucherov, he also can join Stadium Series opponent David Pastrnak (2019 WC & 2021 LT) as well as Rangers teammates Alexis Lafrenière and Vincent Trocheck (both 2024 SS & 2026 WC) as the fourth player with multiple points in each of his first two career outdoor games.

* The fifth and final Lightning player with an outdoor point is captain Victor Hedman, who set up Kucherov’s go-ahead goal in the 2022 Stadium Series. Hedman is out due to injury but expected to return before the Olympic break.

Andrei Vasilevskiy (2022 Stadium Series) can join Jonathan Quick (2020 at COL & 2015 at SJS)and Henrik Lundqvist (2014 at NYI and at NJD) as the only goaltenders with multiple Stadium Series wins. Vasilevskiy also can become the sixth goaltender to win each of his first two career outdoor appearances; he would join Lundqvist (4-0-0), Craig Anderson (3-0-0), Jordan Binnington (2-0-0), Igor Shesterkin (2-0-0) and Braden Holtby (2-0-0).

Jon Cooper, who will serve as head coach of Team Canada at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, celebrated his 1,000th career game as a head coach on New Year’s Eve. Cooper (595) ranked second for wins through 1,000 games in NHL history, behind Scotty Bowman (598). Less than a month later and thanks to a 10-game win streak, the Lightning bench boss (600 W in 1,005 GC) became second-fastest head coach in NHL history to 600 career regular-season wins, behind Bowman (1,002 GC on Nov. 7, 1982).

* Eleven current Lightning players have appeared in at least one NHL regular-season outdoor game, including seven Olympians: Guentzel (Team USA); Hedman (Team Sweden); Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli (both Team Canada); Oliver Bjorkstrand (Team Denmark); Erik Cernak (Team Slovakia); and Zemgus Girgensons (Team Latvia). Their statistics in those appearances are listed in the attached PDF.

David Pastrnak (2023 WC2021 LT & 2019 WC) and Sean Kuraly (2025 SS2021 LT & 2019 WC) have each skated in three outdoor games – the most among all Bruins – and each are undefeated. They can move into a tie for the second-most NHL outdoor wins among skatersCharlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm are both 2-0-0 outdoors, while Henri JokiharjuCasey Mittelstadt and Pavel Zacha won their lone appearance.

* Pastrnak (4-1—5 in 3 GP) leads all players in the 2026 Stadium Series in career outdoor goals and points, thanks in part to one of the three outdoor hat tricks in NHL history (3-0—3 at 2021 LT). Pastrnak’s four career outdoor goals are tied with Tyler Toffoli and Mika Zibanejad for the most in NHL history and his five points are two shy of the most in League history.

* Pastrnak can become the first player in NHL history with at least three multi-point games outdoors. He enters the 2026 Stadium Series as one of nine players with two such performances.

* Pastrnak ranks among the top 10 in Bruins history for career goalsassists and points, with room to climb the goals and points lists before Stadium Series – as of Jan. 18, Pastrnak needs 12 goals to tie Brad Marchand for fourth place and seven points to pass Rick Middleton for sixth place. Already this season, Pastrnak has overtaken Ray Bourque (Oct. 23) and Middleton (Dec. 11) on the goals list.

* Kuraly (2019 WC w/ BOS), McAvoy (2021 LT w/ BOS), Elias Lindholm (2019 HC w/ CGY) and Tanner Jeannot (2022 SS w/ NSH) are the other outdoor goal scorers on the Bruins roster. Jeannot, who scored the opening for goal the Predators in the 2022 Stadium Series against the Lightning, can join Sidney Crosby (2 vs. PHI), Jakub Voracek (2 vs. PIT), Brock Nelson (2 vs. NYR) and Sam Reinhart (2 vs. NYR) as the only players to score in multiple outdoor games against the same opponent. Reinhart is the only one to do so with different teams (BUF at 2018 WC, FLA at 2026 WC).

Nikita Zadorov is set for his third outdoor game, all with different teams (also 2023 HC w/ CGY & 2020 SS w/ COL). Six defensemen have appeared in an NHL outdoor game with three or more franchises: Erik Gustafsson (CHI, PHI, WSH, NYR & DET), Brendan Smith (DET, NYR & NJD), Marco Scandella (MIN, BUF & STL), TJ Brodie (CGY, TOR & CHI), Nick Holden (COL, NYR & VGK) and Matt Irwin (SJS, NSH & WSH).

Marco Sturm is in his first season as Bruins head coach but is no stranger to outdoor games with the franchise. Sturm scored the overtime winner for Boston in the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway Park, the fourth regular-season outdoor game in NHL history. Sturm will become the first individual to appear in an outdoor game as both a head coach and a player.

* Twelve current Bruins players have been part of at least one NHL regular-season outdoor game, including 11 who have played and four who skated in their most recent outdoor contest (2023 Winter Classic: Pastrnak, McAvoy, H. Lindholm and Zacha; Swayman dressed but DNP). Their statistics in those contests are listed in the attached PDF.
